President's Message
The Zonta Club of Lebanon has a rich history. Established in 1956, our local projects provide resources to girls and women in our community. We sponsor the Z-Club at the Lebanon High School, our longest running service project for over 25 years. We use fundraiser monies to provide scholarships to senior girls at Lebanon High School, Western Boone High School and Zionsville High School and to an adult woman over the age of 25 who is either resuming or beginning collegiate studies. We advocate to eliminate violence against women.
The club currently supports Zonta International service projects such Adolescent Girls Health and Protection, Health and Dignity - Strengthening Services for Survivors of Gender Based Violence, Engaging Girls on Climate Change, Ending Child Marriage. Other international service projects supported in recent years are: Elimination of Obstetric Fistula, Addressing Human Trafficking and Unsafe Migration of Women and Girls, Education in Madagascar, Gender Responsive Schools in Vietnam, Delaying Early Marriage in Niger, Prevention of Mother to Child transmission of HIV. We support the international project KIVA (www.kiva.org), which provides micro finance loans for women in small business.
To support our local college scholarships for high school senior women, our main fundraiser is "Ladies Night Out" held in March! The event includes silent and live auctions, vendors that cater to women, entertainment and light appetizers and drinks. A live purse auction featuring men models from the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Lebanon Police Department and Lebanon Fire Department is always a hit of hilarity and high bids! We also raise monies by providing a food booth at the Lincoln Celebration and Civil War Reenactment held in late September. In December we sell poinsettias.
In March, we recognize women in the community at our "Rose Awards" celebration. These women have gone above and beyond to contribute to the well being of the community and others. And in June, we award college scholarships to deserving young women.
Throughout October and November we build awareness of domestic violence through our "Zonta Says NO against Domestic Violence" campaign. We organize Walks and feature speakers advocating against domestic violence, human trafficking and child marriage. We pepper the area with orange lawn signs as a reminder of this epidemic. We place orange pinwheels and pendants on the court house lawn in memory of those who have died from domestic violence.
We are members of the Zonta International community (www.zonta.org), District 6 (www.zontadistrict6.org) which encompasses Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois and Area 4 which serves Indiana. Our members meet regularly for events at the Area, District and International levels to discuss goals and accomplishments, and to enjoy fellowship with lifelong friends. International Conventions are held every other year at exciting locations throughout the world. District Conferences are held in the fall of every year and Area Workshops are held in the spring of every year.
The Zonta Club of Lebanon meets the first Wednesday of every month excluding July, usually at the Ulen Country Club in Lebanon. If you are interested in attending a meeting, please contact us to obtain additional details. We invite women to join our cause who are willing to work and contribute to the empowerment of women through service and advocacy.
